Description / 'Siberian Blues' Dianthus Seeds

Jazz up the dianthus bed with this richly colored, long-blooming 'Siberian Blues' Dianthus. From late spring well into fall, masses of lavender-blue blooms (each 1/2- to 1-inch across) arise in big clusters on tough, vigorous plants. Branching from the base, these 6- to 12-inch plants become incredibly dense, for even more flowers all season long.

Unlike some Garden Pinks, 'Siberian Blues' Dianthus won't melt out in the heat and humidity of summer. The rounded plants stay neat and compact, their blue-green foliage offering great contrast to the vibrant blue flowers. The perfect companion to pink Dianthus.

'Siberian Blues' Dianthus blooms the first year from seed and is very long-lived. Sow seed in early summer for bloom the following spring. Best performance in sun and well-drained, gritty soil.

Weak looking, not blue at all 2 people found this helpful

I started my seeds in early May. They germinated just fine and I was eagerly waiting for blooms which began in mid July. But flowers are pinky lavender, small and don't last, and on spindly, weak looking plants. Nothing like the robust dianthus I got from Home Depot 3 years ago that are still lush and bloom prolifically in the same zone 4 garden all summer, even tho treated same. So I'm disappointed. My only hope is that next year they'll look better, if they even come back.

All violet color 0 people found this helpful

Good germination. Grew well. No blue colored flowers in any of the plants -- all violet. Still, they are very pretty. Waiting to see how many survive after getting nibbled by rabbits and after this coming winter.

Once you have grown this dianthus you'll always want this stunning unique beauty in your garden! 'Siberian Blues' is vigorous and heavy flowering and plants will persist for several years and have seeded out gently in my garden. Everyone loves and comments on this dianthus!

Pretty, but not blue 3 people found this helpful

    Rating

I bought these and direct sowed them a couple years ago. They are very Hardy and have survived through our 5a winters. They bloom very late compared to other dianthus varieties I've grown and give nice healthy plants. I am very satisfied with the plant quality and health, but there flowers are most definitely not blue. They are a very pretty pink-purple.

Planted two packets of theses seeds 3 days after they arrived in a bed in my garden. I have checked them daily and watered when the soil was dry. I have not seen any germination it’s been over three weeks. I am disappointed.

Disappointed: the color is not blue 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I love blue & blue-violet flowers, so I had to try this. So disappointed with these-- all are a fuchsia pinkish lavender, and the color clashes with the complementary color scheme (blue-orange) of my garden. NONE of the plants are the pretty blue color shown in the photos!

They are NOT blue- don't believe the photo! 3 people found this helpful

    Rating

I love blue flowers in my garden & had high hopes for these in my plan for a garden with blue & orange (complementary colors). They have begun to bloom-- but they definitely are NOT blue. More of a fuchsia pinky lavender. I hate pink and the color clashes with my orange flowers. What a disappointment. Don't believe the photo!

Healthy plant, beautiful flowers 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

Seeds germinates well into a very healthy plant, The flowers are beautiful, almost neon. It takes a hard freeze to go dormant. It takes all weather conditions and different soils well, also tolerates part shade. The only issue I have had is that it is quite aggressive, spreading from the roots and seeds. The right spot for it, such as a border that won’t take tender plants would be great.

wrong color. 3 people found this helpful
I don't know what is going on with this place, I ordered a several seeds, some didn't get, some didn't germinated, and some I get wrong color like this one. Whoever pack those seed don't recognize the color or is blind. Don't recommend this store to others. I didn't know, it was a my mistake. Maybe price is tempting.

Where's the blue? 5 people found this helpful

    Rating

Bought these for the blue color shown in the paper catalog. When they bloomed (and they did bloom the first year) they were pink. Pink is only shown online and not in the catalog, no mention of sensitivity to pH and temperature causing a color shift, either online or in catalog. Plants are performing well but I only wanted them for the color blue, which is so hard to find in summer bloomers.

A Joke 1 people found this helpful

What a joke.....pkt was to have blue seeds in it and the outside of pkt said pink and blue. Pkt was to have 50 seeds inside, well if it had 10 in it I was lucky. And they never came up!!! Don't need to contact me, will never buy again!

Pretty Little Flowers 3 people found this helpful

Bought these seeds a few years ago. Germinated fairly well. Planted plants on a little slope and don't mess too much with them except pull any weeds or grass in them. I won first place with flowers in dianthus class at county farm show!

I ran out of steam last year and planted the year-old seeds this year. They germinated very well and are thriving despite the inadequate attention I have given them - same for the Dianthus "Sweetness" variety.
