All-America Selections (AAS) Regional Winner 2024
Skytree Hybrid Broccoli, an F1 hybrid, is a flower, or head, vegetable that produces 4- to 8-inch heads. The heads as well as the tender, juicy stalks have a delicious, sweet, true broccoli flavor. Broccoli is considered a superfood for its nutrient rich content.
This herbaceous annual, a member of the crucifer or brassica family, forms a tall, stocky plant with upright stems that are easy to harvest. Broccoli is easy to grow in sunny locations with organically rich, well-composted, consistently moist, well-drained loams. Plants should be well-watered and should never be allowed to dry out or wilt. After harvesting the main head, continue caring for the plant to promote side shoots.
A cool-season, winter-hardy vegetable, the toughest of the cool-season crops, one of the first to be planted in the garden, broccoli seeds can be direct sown into the garden as soon as the soil is workable in early spring, about 5 weeks before the last frost in spring. But it can also be started indoors and transplanted, spring and fall. It needs cold temperatures to germinate and grow, withstanding heavy frost and temperatures below 28 degrees, and becomes even sweeter with a light frost.
If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
