Solarscape® is the first interspecific impatiens series from seed. Solarscape® Orange Burst is a tender perennial, usually grown as an annual, offering late spring through late summer interest. The vibrant, satiny blooms are deep coral-orange with some shading to light salmon-orange. The flowers cover the plant non-stop all season, adding a tropical appeal to the garden.
The high-performance varieties in the Solarscape® series grow well in sun or shade and fill in quickly. Solarscape Orange Burst has a mounded habit of dense foliage with superior disease resistance, especially to impatiens downy mildew. It is shown to best effect when massed in beds and borders or in containers and hanging baskets. Solarscape Orange Burst is a great option for brightening areas with dappled sun, such as around the base of trees.
A beloved garden staple, low-maintenance and easily grown from seed, interspecific impatiens prefers partial to full sun and humus rich, moist, well-drained soil. It is important to keep impatiens well watered and protected from strong winds.
Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost date and transplant seedlings into the garden in spring when the threat of frost has passed. If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
