Solarscape® is the first interspecific impatiens series from seed. Solarscape® XL Pink Jewel is a tender perennial, usually grown as an annual, that blooms from late spring through fall, typically to first frost. The vibrant, bright pink blooms are 2½ to 2¾ inches wide and have a satiny pearlescent sheen. They completely cover the plant non-stop all season, adding a touch of tropical flair to the garden.
The high-performance varieties in the Solarscape series grow well in sun or shade and fill in quickly. Solarscape XL Pink Jewel has a mounded habit of dense foliage with superior disease resistance, especially to impatiens downy mildew. It is shown to best effect when massed in beds and borders but is also perfect for containers and hanging baskets. Solarscape XL Pink Jewel is a great option for brightening areas with dappled sun, such as around the base of trees.
A beloved garden staple, low-maintenance and easily grown from seed, interspecific impatiens grow best in sunny to partially sunny locations with humus rich, moist, well-draining soil. It is important to keep impatiens well-watered and protected from strong winds.
Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost date and transplant seedlings into the garden in spring when the threat of frost has passed.

A challenging, but beautiful, result 0 people found this helpfulBy some miracle, using a dampened Espoma seed starting mix on top and moisture control potting soil on bottom, and sticking the seeds into the Espoma on top, I got 9 to germinate. I did not have very good luck with my other Orange Burst Solarscape Impatiens that I tried germinating in other media (with a struggle, I got 6 of those to germinate). The 9 Pink Jewel are now in the garden and have really brightened an otherwise boring and colorless area. Very pretty. I will probably try growing them next year since they are perfect in that part of the garden.

1% 0 people found this helpfulI ordered 2 packs and out of 30 seeds, only 3 germinated Very disappointing. I am not new to growing from seeds so I’m confident everything was done correctly. These are such beautiful flowers and I was very excited to grow them. Sadly I will not have much opportunity.

Only 33% Success Rate 0 people found this helpfulBought a pack of 15 Solarscape XL Pink Jewel Hybrid Impatiens seeds. Only 7 of the 15 seeds germinated. 2 showed poor vigor and died. I was left with only 5 seedlings out of 15 expensive seeds, and I wouldn't waste my time or money on this selection again.

Poor Production 2 people found this helpfulI've grown my own annuals from seed for over 15 years. Temp regulated, best medium etc. All the Solarscape seeds yielded less than 25%.
