Description / Sugar Buns Hybrid Sweet Corn Seeds

72 days. We believe that Sugar Buns is simply the yummiest early sweet corn you can grow! We were bowled over in our trials -- nothing tasted sweeter, thanks to this hybrid's special homozygous sugar-enhancer endosperm. (What was that again?) Simply put, you'll get great-tasting corn that stays fresher longer -- no more racing to eat up or give away the harvest before it spoils! Plants reach just over 5 feet tall, producing beautiful 7-inch ears with 14 rows of sweet, tasty yellow kernels.

Sugar-enhanced corn is creamier and more tender than Super Sweet, with stronger old-fashioned corn flavor, yet is sweeter than regular Sweet hybrids. This delicious variety retains its sweetness for up to 10 days after harvest. No isolation from other corn is necessary, and germination is easier than with Super Sweets.

Sow after last spring frost, when the soil is warm. Corn is famously easy to direct-sow in any sunny spot. To extend your corn harvest, make successive plantings weekly up to mid-July, or plant varieties with differing maturity dates. Pkt is 200 seeds.

Like the corn, have planted it for several years. Probably the best I have had over 65 yrs of gardening.

Zone 9b California: Late June 2021. Just harvesting our Spring planted crop. My gosh! Just grow this corn. Small, tight, super sweet little ears. We can't get enough!

doesn't germinate 0 people found this helpful

this corn was a total bust, only about 10% germination the first planting, replanted and same thing. Our garden soil is rich and balanced, everything else doing well (except the green beans I ordered from Park Seed). Now I have to try to find seed at this late date at a big box store. At least it will grow!

Great for container growing! 0 people found this helpful

We grew about 12 of these plants in a 24" container on our back porch, and they are thriving! Most plants had 2 cobs; the second cob didn't develop, but I think with more hand pollination, they would have. Highly recommend for the backyard gardener that wants to try something new. Our kids loved watching the stages of growth, too.

No corn 0 people found this helpful

The seed did arrive in a timely manner. It was planted in good loose ground. The weather was near perfect with temperatures in the high 70s with rain. The seed did not come up after three weeks. I have farmed not hardened all my life. I was very disappointed with the seed.
