Description / Tiger Eyes Marigold Seeds

Why can't all heirloom varieties be as easy to grow and drop-dead gorgeous as Tiger Eyes Marigolds? This fabulous French marigold surprises and delights with big, bold "eyes" of deepest red and brightest yellow all summer long—on nifty little plants just a foot high and wide. If you love flowers (or want to protect your tomatoes and other veggies from root knot nematodes), you must treat yourself to Tiger Eyes Marigold.

The flowers measure about 2 inches across, with single lower petals of smoky red and eye-catching, pompon-like upper petals of sunny yellow. Taken together, this Tiger Eyes Marigold combination is absolutely stunning, and will stand out like fresh paint from among all the other humdrum red-and-yellow marigolds. And you don't have to wait for the flowers—they arise very, very freely all summer long, giving you an extra-long season of beauty in the sunny garden, flowerpot, or window box.

If you're a vegetable grower, you may have already heard that marigolds actually kill as many (or more) root knot nematodes as commercial pesticides. Plant Tiger Eyes Marigold very freely around your veggies (particularly tomatoes and peppers, on which nematodes feast), and I guarantee you'll see a big difference in the success rate of your plants. Of course, if you've got a large veggie garden and are serious about eliminating nematodes, there's a marigold designed just for that purpose, and I highly recommend it—but for the rest of us, Tiger Eyes Marigold is so beautiful that it will fill the bill admirably.

Tiger Eyes Marigold is an open-pollinated marigold that has been gracing gardens for more than a century, and I'm delighted to be able to offer it to Park gardeners. You'll love the compact plant habit and nonstop blooms. Give Tiger Eyes Marigold a try for months of eye-catching color.

I love my Tiger Eyes marigolds. The plants are healthy and full, and the 1-1/2" flowers, while not as large as some other varieties, are cheerful and striking. My plants are 12 to 14" tall, and about 16" wide.

A stunning marigold 1 people found this helpful

Park Seed is the only place I've found for these cute and productive seeds. I grew them last summer, for the first time. One seed, just one, grew the most amazing plant. It was so big, I had to use my pruning shears to cut it down in the Fall. I used the Park Seed BioDome and seed sponges on top of a heat mat. Every single seed germinated within four days. Amazing.

Just one seed grew the most astounding plant. It had to be 2 feet high and 2 feet across. Just one seed! The stalk was so sturdy, I had to use my pruning shears to cut it out of the ground. Choose your planting spots carefully, because this marigold will get big.

Out of everything I planted in my grow tent, these were the only things that wouldn't germinate and I tried 4 times. Needless to say they went right in the trash.

I mistakenly put 4 stars in my previous review when this marigold deserve 5 stars. Cuttings live and bloom over long period in a jar with water. Bees and butterfly love these.

I was gifted a packet of these seeds this year. I hadn’t planted much from seed before... but these were easy to germinate, transplanted well, and are amazingly beautiful. I’m saving seeds from them for next year (fingers crossed). They did MUCH better than the basic marigolds I bought at the store.

The seeds took an unusually long time to germinate and then at only about a 50% germination rate. Small blooms, about 3/4" in diameter.

What a beautiful showy plant from a lowly marigold. This flower sets plentiful buds from early season till killing frost. They have been a staple in my beds for years. I use it for my beds at home, our village ballpark bed, my sisters beds and in the cemetery for my uncles grave. Never been disappointed.

The Only Marigold From Now On... 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I never like marigolds before but I would always buy the started plants to put in pots with my tomato plants. But I love this robust and colorful marigold! I started the seed in an Aerogarden Sprout last spring, transplanted to tomato pots, and the marigolds grew into lovely little bushes that were constantly covered in flowers. When I deadheaded, I would sprinkle the seeds in theI pot and the next things I knew I had new marigolds sprouting. Winter killed them off. I will surely plant these marigolds again this spring.

Poor Germination 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

Planted this variety for the first time. Used seed starting mix outside in green house - germination was awful. Finally had the needed 54 plants after replanting SEVERAL times.... Went into the ground - 10" tall with few flowers hidden by foliage. Very disappointed. I plant marigolds every spring and then again in the Fall. Won't use this variety again. Ruined my annual flower bed in front of house.

This was my first year growing these marigolds and I had great germination. And I must say I was extremely pleased with the growth (mine reached well over 12 inches high), the amount of blooms (plants were consistently covered in masses of blooms) and the color was outstanding! Bold and bright! Love, love, love these marigolds and look forward to many more years of growing these beauties in my gardens!

Tiger Eyes is a fast grower and blooms quickly. It has a beautiful thick dark green color and is very well behaved. This marigold has been in my garden for decades and I would not even consider not having them.
