Description / Tomato Sampler Collection
How to choose among the dozens and dozens of tomato varieties out there? When in doubt, always go for quality -- and that would mean the 3 varieties in this premier collection! For one low price, you get all the tomatoes (and more) a family would need for a huge harvest.
This collection brings you the best and most exciting varieties for your tomato garden, so even if you've never started a tomato seed before in your life, you can soon be harvesting big, yummy fruits. If you are an experienced garden, welcome to the very finest in tomatoes for the home gardener. We stake our reputation on these varieties, and they have never let us down.
Purple Boy combines all the flavor of the heirloom Cherokee Purple but with an improved disease resistance package. Its deep violet color, intense rich flavor, and stunning violet purple hues, offers that true homegrown tomato tang. Where Cherokee Purple was under high disease pressure and did not grow well, this hybrid can be grown and enjoyed all summer long. The Tomato Purple Boy Hybrid is resistant to nematodes, verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt, and tobacco mosaic. Slightly ridged and very symmetrically shaped, these tomatoes combine juiciness with a strong tomato tang, the type unknown to those rock-hard supermarket varieties.
Sun Gold is a super sweet, tangerine colored cherry tomato. High resistance to fusarium wilt and tobacco mosaic virus. One of the best tasting tomatoes and has a slight glow on the vines. Indeterminate vines are vigorous and early to bear fruit. These tomatoes have such a beautiful orange and yellow color that seems to pop while they clump together and hang on a medium green plant. This tomato is easily becoming one of the most popular cherry tomatoes and there's every reason why. It is great for salads, stir fries, or canning. Add some slices to a tomato pie for some extra sweetness. They are super easy to throw in a recipe or just use as a snack.
Chef's Choice now has a sixth selection in this popular series. The Black is a beefsteak type tomato with a dark green/brown/black hue. Don't let its unique color deter you, Chef's Choice Black is a meaty, juicy, full flavored tomato with a hint of saltiness that enhances the taste, making it a colorful and delicious salad. Chef's Choice Black grows strong, healthy five-foot tall plants producing early to set yields of more than 30, blemish-free fruits throughout the season. Each magnificent tomato is 5-6 inches in size, weighing 8-10 ounces each. Black is also a disease resistant plant with dark green leaves and well-behaved form.
Tomatoes need plenty of sunshine, water, and food. The three varieties in this collection are all indeterminate, which means that they will continue to grow and set new fruit all summer long. To do this, they need support. When you transplant the young plants in spring, set up a tomato cage around them, install a growing spiral, or give them some other form of vertical support, tying the heavy stems to the support as they begin to set fruit. You will have much heavier yields and healthier plants if you do this.
