Description / Vaccinium Bushel and Berry® Midnight Cascade Self-Pollinating Cascading Blueberry
Vaccinium Bushel and Berry® Midnight Cascade Self-Pollinating Cascading Blueberry
Vaccinium Bushel and Berry® Midnight Cascade Self-Pollinating Cascading Blueberry is a uniquely beautiful fruiting shrub with a weeping habit that's perfect for hanging baskets and containers. From its spring flowers to fall foliage, this blueberry is ornamental, productive, and packed with flavor.
This young plant, bare root liner, is the easiest and most efficient way to plant your very own berry patch! In spring, white, bell-shaped blossoms appear and give way to a generous summer crop of aromatic blueberries. The ripe berries are rich in antioxidants and have a mild vanilla-like flavor, making them a delightful treat fresh from the plant or in recipes. Compact and cascading, this plant reaches about 24 inches tall and wide, with arching stems that spill gracefully over the edges of containers.
The foliage remains dark green through the growing season, developing hints of red as cooler fall weather arrives. Midnight Cascade is self-pollinating, making it easy to grow even with limited space. It thrives in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil (pH 4.5 to 5.5) and is hardy in Zones 5 to 9.
In year 1, remove blossoms to help establish roots and strong growth. In year 2, expect light fruiting as the plant matures. Berries form on one-year-old shoots (old wood) and take approximately 80 to 85 days from bloom to harvest. With a chill hour requirement of just 350 hours, it's well suited to a wide range of climates.
