Description / White Yam Sweet Potato Slips

Days to Maturity: 100 from direct sow

These ghostly White Yam Sweet Potato Slips look nothing like its golden-orange cousins, but has a sweet flavor as irresistible as its unusual white skin and flesh.

Easy to grow and nutritious, sweet potatoes also store well. Set these slips 12 to 15 inches apart in 3-foot rows in a sunny, well-drained spot. After harvest, cure the potatoes in a warm (85 degrees Fahrenheit is preferable) location for 2 weeks, then store at 60 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 to 8 weeks.

Park shipped a week late which was fine with me, sweet potatoes get started late in my area. Park also immediately wanted to know what I thought about the product, which won't be determined until late fall. I ordered 25 slips, received enough to plant 40 hills, and out of those 40 slips wound up with about 25 living plants, half of which were vigorous enough to get a good start. The rest are struggling. This is not a good sweet potato area and this variety is a southern yam which I love to eat but have not been able to grow here in Indiana. If I get any eating size potatoes from this I will be happy, have done my best at it and will not try again if they fail because I've tried many times before. Getting old, running out of times. I generally get white yams by driving south to Mississippi and buying them local.

Roughly one third of the potatoes have died. My order was shipped in four separate shipments. After I received the first package, they sent an email asking for a “good review.” I wrote to customer service twice; never received a response. First time buying from Park Seed; also the last.

I have used Park Seeds previously and was quite satisfied. We really like the Festina beans. On shipping, I took the option of three months or more because of the sweet potatoes in the order.
