The Sun Gold Tomato, also known as the Sungold Tomato, captures the hearts of gardeners and chefs alike with its supersweet, vibrant tangerine-colored fruits. Renowned for its high resistance to Fusarium wilt and tobacco mosaic virus, this cherry tomato variety stands out as one of the tastiest in the garden. Its indeterminate vines are both vigorous and early to bear, producing clusters of beautiful orange and yellow tomatoes that glow against the backdrop of medium green foliage.

This delightful cherry tomato has quickly ascended to become one of the most popular choices for gardens across the country, and it's easy to see why. The Sun Gold Tomato's sweetness makes it a versatile favorite for salads, stir-fries, and even canning. Imagine adding a burst of its sugary flavor to a tomato pie or enjoying the fruits as a simply delicious snack right off the vine.

Cultivating Sun Gold Tomatoes requires starting seeds indoors about 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. When transplanting outdoors, ensure the danger of frost has passed and night temperatures remain consistently above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. To nurture these indeterminate tomatoes to their full potential, plant them in rich soil and provide a complete fertilizer to support their vigorous growth. Set plants 2 to 2½ feet apart, and as they mature, these tomato plants will benefit from staking or caging to support their abundant yield of fully ripe, luscious fruits.

The Sun Gold Tomato not only promises a vegetable garden filled with stunning visual appeal but also a harvest rich in flavor. Whether you're an experienced gardener or new to the joys of homegrown produce, the Sungold Tomato offers a rewarding and delicious gardening experience.

Most of the tomatoes split down the side 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

Good tomato plant in every way, including plant hardiness, productivity, etc. … everything except the tomatoes themselves. During both dry weeks, or heavier rain / watering weeks, about half of the tomatoes split down the side while on the vine, attracting insects. If they weren’t split on the vine, they would pop open with a big split the moment you would touch them to harvest, or when brought indoors. Tried harvesting some a little early while still a bit green, but that didn’t help either. I won’t ever get these again.

Sweet, Fruity, Abundant 0 people found this helpful

Delicious, unique, low acid/high brix, 'tropical' taste. Usually the first of the season to ripen, and incredibly prolific. Trusses of 1", apricot colored fruit. Its thin skin begins to thicken at the end of summer and cracks easily. Will grow to 8' tall if not pruned. But the flavor! Sun Gold is the one to give folks who claim to 'not like tomatoes'. The only variety that we 'must have' in our garden every year!

Nobody Doesn't Like Them 0 people found this helpful

Sun Gold is the tomato to give folks who claim to not like tomatoes. Vey sweet and 'tropical' tasting, like a cross between a tomato and a pineapple. My wife asks me to plant this one nearest the driveway so she can snack a handful on her way to work in the morning. Usually our first ripe tomato of the season, and very productive. A well fed plant can get eight feet tall if planted directly in the ground and not pruned. Covered in trusses of orange fruit and yellow blossoms, it's quite a sight from mid to late summer. Sun Gold is in our permanent rotation of tomatoes every year.

The Best Tasting Tomato 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I have been buying these tomato seeds for several years and their flavor is outstanding. They are a combination of sweet and tart together in one small package. Their vines usually take over a good portion of my garden but this year I planted them in grow pots against my 6 ft deer fencing surrounding my vegetable garden. This allowed me to continually tie them up and keep them manageable. My summer would not be complete without these tomatoes.

Il had 1 plant each of Sun Gold (orange), Sweet Million (red) and Bumblebee (yellow) Side by side on the pathway to the car, and user to stop and pop a dozen of these. Sun Gold was by far superior in taste to Sweet Million, wich tasted better than Bumblebee, the latter being rather disappointing. Make no mistake, go for Sun Gold. The site or the harvest was also Superior to the two others.

There was only 10 seeds in the pack not the 20 listed. Six of nine came up, I dropped one. Only one plant has made it to full size. I think I over watered the six that came up. So far, no ripe tomatoes to try. The other cherry tomato plant has done much better.

Best cherry tomato! 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

In the cherry tomato category, this is my personal favorite. Skins are thin; flavor is very sweet (and just a bit different then other cherry types); extremely prolific; and they are somewhat forgiving in terms of when they are picked. They do not crack easily unless there has been a lot of rain. I like to cut them in half and dehydrate for delicious winter snacks. I sold tomato plants at two farm markets for a decade; and this became my best selling variety, by far. Once my customers tried them, they always came back for more. They are also very pretty when mixed with cherry tomatoes of other colors.

Amazingly Resilient, Productive and DELICIOUS 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

These tomatoes survived and produced when every other tomato variety in the garden suffered from extreme, unseasonable weather fluctuations, a plague of leafhoppers, and aphids. The flavor was rich, a little spicy. We use them to make sauce in a pressure cooker and it’s fantastic, just be prepared to strain lots of seeds and skin and add a bit of sweetener. My favorite cherry tomato 1 people found this helpful

Very prolific and very sweet. In fact, I've heard people say it was too sweet, that it lacks balancing acidity. But for what they are, they are darn near perfect in my view.

If you like a great tasting cherry tomato this should be your choice. Plant at least 2 plants cause they seem to disappear quickly! If left to fully vine ripen they can not be beat for flavor.... awesome
