Description / 'Zinderella Purple' Zinnia Seeds

'Zinderella Purple' Zinnia is a spectacle of gardening beauty, showcasing the mesmerizing hues of fuchsia-lilac that bring a tropical flair to any summer garden. The unique flowers, adorned with a pompom of densely clustered short petals atop a cascading skirt of longer, daisy-like petals, offer a striking display. Standing out for their resemblance to the scabiosa or pincushion flower, 'Zinderella Purple' Zinnias are celebrated not only for their exceptional color but also for their intriguing double bloom structure, which makes them as "tall" as they are wide, reaching sizes of 2 to 2½ inches in diameter.

Crowned with the prestige of the Fleuroselect Novelty Award, the Zinderella series, including the purple zinnia variant, is renowned for its unparalleled beauty and garden performance. During the balmy days and nights of summer, gardeners might notice a mix of single and double flowers; the appearance of double blooms is more pronounced when there's a noticeable difference between day and night temperatures. This feature adds a layer of delightful surprise to your garden as it evolves through the season.

Beyond its striking appearance, 'Zinderella Purple' Zinnia plays a crucial role in the garden ecosystem. The blooms are magnets for pollinators and beneficial insects, contributing to the health and vitality of your entire garden. Their ability to attract "good bugs" helps in natural pest control among vegetable crops and other flowers. Easy to grow from seed, purple zinnias thrive whether directly sown into warm spring soil or started indoors. Fast growers, purple zinnias bloom prolifically and continuously, offering fresh blooms when older flowers are removed or cut for vases.

Reaching heights of 25 to 30 inches and spreading 15 to 18 inches wide, 'Zinderella Purple' is perfect for adding vertical interest and vibrant color to sunny beds and containers. Celebrated as a "cut-and-come-again" variety, it promises an endless display of blooms throughout the summer, making every corner of your garden or home a celebration of purple splendor.

Customer Reviews

Not like the Pics, but big butterflies LOVE it!
Review by KAmbrose Master Gardener
In the catalog, these looked a lot like the double purple coneflowers that are about $16 per plant, so I figured I'd give it a try. Out of the 20 plants I grew, none of them got the full doubled head like the ones pictured. They were fairly ordinary, as zinnias go. After spending the afternoon in my garden, I noticed that the Swallowtail butterflies (both the yellow and the black variety) and Monarchs absolutely love them. They bounced between milkweed, anise hyssop and this flower exclusively. I have probably 30 varieties of flower in that bed, but this was their preferred choice. I won't grow them with high expectations in the future of getting plants that look like the pic, but they will continue to have a spot in my pollinator garden because they are drawing in big and small butterflies.
Easy to germinate
Review by Jenny
So far, so good. I planted the seeds in flats for later planting in the garden. These germinate and start growing quickly near a sunny window.
