Firecracker Bush Shrubs

Firecracker bushes are flowering deciduous shrubs that bloom heavily for months, from mid-spring to mid-fall. Long favored by florists and cut flower growers, the flowers appear in loose, terminal clusters and are star or trumpet shaped, softly scented, and brightly colored.

Blooms for months in brightly colored clusters of pollinator-friendly flowers

Firecracker bushes comes in eye-catching shades of red, reddish-orange, pink, yellow, or white. They are rich with nectar and highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and especially hummingbirds.

Firecracker bushes grow and bloom best in full sun. Some grow as tall as 4 feet, but most stay smaller, so they’re suitable for containers and, with adequate sunlight, can be grown indoors as houseplants. They are adaptable to a wide range of soils, as long as they are well-draining and have a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Once established, the shrubs are fairly drought tolerant and are a good choice for a xeriscape or rock garden. But they are also perfect for a pollinator, perennial, or cutting garden.
