Description / Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Garnet'

There has never been a hardy ice plant like Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Garnet'. This breeding breakthrough delivers bright blooms on ground-hugging plants continuously from spring until frost. Not a rebloomer—an everbloomer, and it's so easy to grow.

Exceptionally drought-tolerant, Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Garnet' forms a dense mat of succulent foliage just a few inches high, and spreads 8 to 10 inches wide. In full bloom it's barely 4 to 6 inches off the ground, yet every inch is colorful and lush.

The 2-inch flowers are daisy-shaped and so bright, with petals that shade from deep red to pink surrounding white and yellow centers. Ideal for large plantings, accents, and containers, they are long-lasting and neon-bright in the sun-soaked garden.

Best of all, Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Garnet' is just as tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought as traditional hardy ice plant. Pamper it the first year, then let it go—it will thrive in the poorest conditions provided it has nonstop sun and good soil drainage. Let it spread down a slope or bank, anchoring the soil in place to prevent erosion. Design a mass planting in the baking-hot bed beside the driveway, where heat rises from the pavement all summer long. Or fill in those bare areas where the hose doesn't quite reach.

Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Garnet' turns hardy ice plant from a groundcover primarily interesting for its succulent foliage into a bloom machine. Enjoy three seasons of color every year from this rough-and-tumble garden performer.

Only two sets of leaves looks green. The rest of the plants looks rotten. I'm putting the pot in the shadow, hoping it will rebound.

The plant I received (if you can call it that) was rotten and slimy. I received another plant of the same type and it was in the same condition. Other plants in the shipment (different type) were healthy.

Waterlogged and dead 0 people found this helpful

This plant arrived with water dripping out of the pot and a mostly dead plant. I tried to get as much water out of the root ball as possible and planted in dry potting soil. After a week the whole plant was brown. I requested replacements but was issued a merchandise credit minus the shipping. So, I paid them to send me a dead plant. The other delosperma I ordered at the same time, came in the same condition. Why would they ship like that? Not going to make any loyal customers that way.

I bought 3 plants in May 2017 and was a little disappointed with the size of the flowers, much smaller than I expected. What's worse is that none of the 3 plants survived the winter and I'm left with 3 dead plants. A big waste of money.
