Description / Park Seed Fragrant Giants Nasturtium Seeds

These beloved giant nasturtiums ramble over fences, climb up shrubs, sprawl over rocks, and cascade from baskets and window boxes in the sunny garden, wafting a wonderful aroma that evokes the bygone days of Grandmother's cottage garden. Park Seed Fragrant Giants is a unique mix of large-bloomed, colorful flowers on very vigorous vines.

This is a trailing vine which can be trained to grow upwards on a support or allowed to loll over the sides of containers and across the garden floor. Park Seed Fragrant Giants is a mix of the very best large garden nasturtiums, with 2½-inch blooms of red, orange, yellow, and cream. Both the flowers and the foliage is edible, and releases a peppery aroma that's quite enticing. Use them to decorate salads and as garnishes on the plate—or simply enjoy them as the garden beauties they are.

Best flowering is from early summer right up to frost, especially in cooler summer climates or in part shade farther south and west. Nasturtiums are attractive to pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds, so they make splendid companions to vegetables and herbs. And they are an aphid trap plant: if you have a valuable plant that is being attacked by aphids, surround it with nasturtiums and the aphids will leave it alone (though the Nasturtiums will suffer). This plant is an invaluable pest repellant in any setting.

Direct-sow the seeds in well-drained soil, even poorly fertile areas, and do not overfertilize. (You will get plenty of leaves but fewer flowers in enriched soil.) Park Seed Fragrant Giants grow rapidly and easily, filling garden or container with brilliant color in no time.

I plant these every year 0 people found this helpful

It has been probably 6 years since I purchased these seeds. I have been blessed to have them re-seed in my greenhouse for the past 20 years, except for last year. I even got a packet that was 8 years old to give me about 60% a couple of years ago! To get them to grow outdoors is not always successful, as there are many critters that gobble them up and therefore, even though I save seeds, I eventually ran out and I now need to purchase more. I am so glad Parks still sells them! In the greenhouse I grow them with the Mammoth Melting Sugar snow pea. Together they climb a trellis all the way to the top at 10 feet. People who visit notice the fragrance immediately when they step inside, and the plants are picture perfect together and great to nibble on. I have had no problems with the heat in the greenhouse affecting either plant, and they begin growth in February or March, depending on the weather (I am in Montana), and usually produce until October. A couple of times I had an aphid problem, which I used organic pyrethrin sprays on at night to keep the plants from melting. Then had to rinse them with water before the sun was up. Too much trouble. So now I just let the chickens and guineas in to clean everything up and start over. Park's Fragrant Giants are a must-have in my opinion, and I absolutely love them!

Huge flowers! 0 people found this helpful

I planted Fragrant Giants in several patio containers last summer. They bloomed trouble-free for months, with huge bright flowers, and continued well into October through several frosts. I brought two pots indoors, and they bloomed until Christmastime. Fragrant giants are going to be a staple in my garden from now on.

I was looking for a training nasturtium because in the past mine haven't gotten very big. I tried this variety and I have not been disappointed. Although I lost a few seedlings, the ones that survived are growing like crazy! Tons of beautiful blooms on vining branches and the lovely circular leaves are stunning. The hummingbirds cannot get enough of these beauties.
