Description / Celebrity Plus Hybrid Tomato Seeds

Days to Maturity: 80

Semi-Determinate

An improvement on the original Celebrity (an AAS Winner), Celebrity Plus, a hybrid F1 tomato, is grown as a fruit vegetable. The plant sets small "perfect" flowers followed by smooth, red tomatoes. The fruits are larger than the original Celebrity, weighing in at 7 to 8 ounces. They have better uniformity and a higher brix value (5.4), meaning they have the same outstanding flavor as Celebrity, but sweeter. Tomatoes are considered a superfood for their nutrient rich content, having a high (top 20) Aggregate Nutrient Density Index score (ANDI), or micronutrient-per-calorie density. Tomatoes are a good source of vitamin C and provide vitamin A and potassium. They also contain carotenoid lycopene and beta-carotene as well as phenolic acids and flavonoids.

Typically grown as an annual, Celebrity Plus, an herbaceous tender perennial, is a member of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), which contains plants that typically grow in temperate to tropical regions. A semi-determinate variety with medium vigor, Celebrity Plus may require staking or caging for support. Blossoms and fruit continue to develop as the vine grows, so, it bears an impressive amount of fruit over the course of a season.

Celebrity Plus grows best in a sunny location with deep, moist, humusy, fertile loams. It has a high resistance to fusarium wilt Fol:1,2; gray leaf spot Sbl,Sl,Ss; tomato mosaic virus ToMV:0-2; and verticillium wilt Va:1/Vd:1. It has intermediate resistance to tomato spotted wilt TSWV:0 and root-knot Ma,Mi,Mj. Self-pollinating, the plant will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties.

A warm-season vegetable, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost, tomato seed should be direct sown into warm spring soil after all threat of frost has passed. Seeds can also be started indoors about 8 weeks before transplanting to the garden. Flowers begin to set fruit with night temperatures between 55 and 75°F. Protect plants with row covers if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulching helps to moderate soil temperature and to maintain soil moisture.

If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.

Regret trying Celebrity Plus
Review by SimplyLisa
They all germinated as expected. The plants, for the most part, are doing well. For a hybrid that boasts of better blight resistance I can't tell it. I normally at least have a first harvest before blight sets in, but not this year. For background purposes I've been growing tomatoes for 40 years. I've grown Celebrity tomatoes for the last 12 as my main production tomato. I have 14 plants growing this year. Not one of them have a tomato larger than a salad tomato. Of the 14 plants, four are already showing signs of blight on the lower branches. It is not unusual for our first flush of fruit to experience BER due to our normal spring weather and these tomatoes are no different. I do not recommend nor will I purchase again. Our entire production harvest for the year is in jeopardy. 100% regret my decision to try Celebrity Plus.
