Description / Hummingbird Wildflower Mix Seeds

The sight of a hummingbird in the garden is one of a gardener's best moments, the highlight of an afternoon. So imagine how your sunny beds and borders will look with multiple "winged jewels" sipping at nectar stations and even visiting flowers. Our Hummingbird Wildflower Mix is designed to encourage that, by providing the native species hummers prefer.

Consisting of 15 species, the mix is specially blended to include varieties that do well in climates in various parts of the country. Including both annual and perennial varieties, all are open-pollinated, so they will set seed that you can collect or let self-sow for years of beauty.

Mix Includes:
Phlox
Lupine
Columbine
Four o'Clock
Gayfeather

Lemon Mint
Larkspur
Penstemon
Sage
Snapdragon
Sweet William
Bellflower
Wild Petunia

To grow the Hummingbird Wildflower Mix, simply find an open, sunny spot, run a garden fork through the soil to loosen it, and broadcast this seed freely. Then water, add a hummingbird feeder if you desire, and your work is done. The annuals in the mix will bloom the first year, of course, and the perennials will establish and be ready for next spring. This is a long-term planting you will come to treasure.

Of course, hummingbirds aren't the only winged visitors who will thrill to this mix. Native species and open-pollinated varieties are certain to attract the full complement of beneficial guests in the garden: butterflies, bees, ladybugs, and more. They are natural pest repellents as well, with the "good bugs" keeping the bad ones away. Use the Hummingbird Wildflower Mix near your vegetable garden or your most treasured plantings for a bit of extra protection.

Especially if your home is in an urban or suburban neighborhood, native plants may be in short supply. Pollinators cannot stay where good sources of food aren't readily available. So restore the natural beauty and usefulness of the garden by adding Hummingbird Wildflower Mix to your sunny soil this season.

One packet of this mix covers about 50 square feet (1/4 ounce).

The lemon mint seed is a deal breaker for me, its invasive and will choke all others out eventually.

I got a late start to planting seeds this year, so I sprinkled these seeds in various pots. You get a lot of seeds! I have mostly red. The hummingbirds have found the Sage and the Sweet William. I did get a blue leggy flower and lots of leaves. If they had more time, I'm sure I would have much more flowers. I will be moving these into my garden for them to come back next Spring.

It's working, I've got hummingbird visitors! 0 people found this helpful

Here I am in mid July, and I have hummingbirds visiting my wildflower patch. It's great fun to see the birds visiting and feeding naturally. The other visitors come too, including butterflies and bees. They all seem to get along with each other. I'm in zone 7b, planted the seeds in late April, and honestly it was a very slow grow until mid June. I didn't get as many plants as I would have hoped, so for that I took off one star. But overall I'm extremely pleased and I plan to expand the patch and add another packet or two to the existing patch. This mix is much better than a cheaper "big box store" mix I planted elsewhere.

I had high hopes for this seed mixture, but I have planted 2 1/2 bags, and have not seen one flower come up. I planted these flowers according to the directions, also planted some seeds in a flower pot. Planting was middle of April. Bought three packs and not one flower to show for it.

I love the hummingbird mix. I have 4 o'clock plants and larkspur growing like crazy and its the all pink 4 o'clock that is sold out when I looked on parkseed today. They are growing incredibly fast! I do know that I have yet to see lupines, snapdragons, columbine, phlox, gayfeather, lemon mint, penstemon, sage, sweet William, bellflower, and wild petunias. I will be waiting patiently with anticipation. I have planted these seeds in an area that is zone 10.
