Description / Sir Crunch a Lot Hybrid Cucumber Seeds

Days to Maturity: 60 from direct sow

Sir Crunch a Lot is more than just a fabulous name—it's a season-extender that you'll treasure in those dog days of late summer, when all the other varieties have stopped bearing. And while it's the ultimate in crunch (as you'd expect from its name), Sir Crunch a Lot is also rich and free of bitter taste, with a small seed cavity and extra-long fruit size. Can't beat it with a stick.

These glossy dark green cukes reach 8 to 10 inches long, borne on compact and open-habit plants that make harvesting easy and spine-free. They look as good as they taste, and you'll always get big yields on these plants, thanks to their resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, leaf spot, and blight/target spot. If you've ever had trouble growing cucumber plants before, Sir Crunch a Lot is the one to try for surefire success.

Direct sow seeds in a sunny spot after all danger of frost is past, or start indoors and transplant when the first true leaf appears. Cucumbers can be allowed to grow on the ground, but for longer, straighter fruit and to save garden space, grow them in a cage or on a trellis, allowing 1 foot between plants. Keep them well-watered, and keep the fruits picked promptly.

Best Cucumber Ever 0 people found this helpful

I have been gardening a long time. Cucumbers were always frustrating for me until I found Sir Crunch a Lot! These plants produced tons of cucumbers from June until October, right through our hottest and driest summer here in Virginia. I planted 3 vines in a small, raised bed and 3 plants in the ground. I did not see any difference in production. All were in full sun given the same amount of water! Beware, you will be harvesting constantly!

Best salad cucumber Ever 1 people found this helpful

I've grown Sir Crunch A Lot cumbers for ten years in Northern Vermont. The production is impressive and early. The flavor of this cucumber has spoiled me for ever. They are the perfect salad cucumber, amazing fresh cucumber flavor I've never found in another cucumber. Crunch A Lot is the perfect name, they are so crisp and refreshing that they are a summer cookout favorite peeled, cut in quarters and served on ice. I honestly don't know what I'd do if Park Seed ever discontinued this cucumber. I even grow them in large pot supported by a tall tomato cage in the small greenhouse attached to my living room through the winter.

Fantastic for container gardening 0 people found this helpful

I am growing a few different kinds of cucumbers; these, plus a couple I picked up at a big box store and a local nursery. BY FAR these are our favorites. Noticeably crunchier than other cucumbers, it's very refreshing and has zero bitternesss. Very attractive fruit. I'll be growing these again. They fit nicely in a container (I also have one in a grow bag, doing just fine). I just have a simple trellis (three 4 foot garden stakes tied at the top). Highly recommend!
